Description
The new Franklin Community Center on the corner of South and State Streets replaces the existing community center which was located on Jefferson Street in the old Franklin High School building. Construction completed in 2000 for the $2.5 million of the 35,000 ft² building. The architecture is an eclectic cottage style, which works with the location. The exterior of the building is a mix of split-faced block, brick and siding. The main lobby of the building serves a mutltitude of functions including: snack bar with tables and chairs, climbing wall, and central information desk. The second floor is utilized for a walking track. It can be accessed by the open lobby stair at the front/main entrance, by a back stairwell, or by a “mini elevator”. The track has several unique features including; overlook into the 2 ½ story lobby, overlook into the IHSAA regulation gymnasium, and the observation over the racquetball courts. The overlook into the gym and racquetball courts also assist in teaching efforts.
